Sightings for Friday January 20th

Sainte-Catherine: Rather chilly at the Recre-O-Parc, with a biting wind, the water birds were resisting as well as possible the elements of nature. Two adult Bald eagles were perched side by side in a tree on Île-aux-Herons, each with its own prey. An hour later, a third adult flew over the area around the shoreline of the lock, causing all the different ducks and Canada geese resting on the icy water to take flight at the same time.

The eagle once out of sight, the ducks came back, a male Ring-necked Duck along with Canada Geese (+200).

I saw at least two male Gadwall and a male Barrow's goldeneye and a good hundred Common goldeneye. Gulls were very discreet: a Herring and 4 Great black-backed.

- Raymond Belhumeur
