Sightings for Sunday May 15th

Montréal, Mount Royal Park/ Mount Royal Cemetery 6:30 am to 12:00 pm- 18 warbler species and 4 vireos- 58 species overall. The birds were very active despite the constant rain and many of the warblers/vireos were gleaning from lower branches making them much easier to observe than usual.

Noteworthy observations included a group of 8 Brant Geese near the Victoria Bridge, several hundred swallows (Tree, Barn, Bank, Cliff, Rough-winged and Purple Martin),

A Peregrine Falcon flew past and there was a Solitary sandpiper in the grass at the foot of the hill

Gray catbird had a perfect imitation of the cries "KYIP, KYIP" of a Tern.

Longueuil: 1 verdâtre, 5 à joues grises, 4 à collier, 3 jaunes, 6 à flancs marron, 3 à tête cendrée, 4 bleues, 12 à croupion jaune, 5 à gorge noire, 2 à gorge orangée, 1 à couronne rousse, 2 noir et blanc, 2 flamboyante, 1 masquée, 2 couronnée, 3 des ruisseaux

Un Faucon pèlerin est passé en vol et il y avait un chevalier solitaire dans le gazon au pied de la butte de glissade.

Un Moqueur chat a fait de parfaites imitations des cris " kyip, kyip " de la Sterne pierregarin. - Jean Marc Béliveau

Rosemere: I was lucky to see a male HOODED WARBLER in the Marais Tylee in Rosemere (Lower Laurentians), about 6:45 p.m. today. I was able to observe it until about 7:35 p.m. she was still there when I left. It fed in the shrub layer directly adjacent to the Rivière des Milles-Îles and was part of a group consisting of migratory warblers, Magnolia, American redstart, a Nashville Warbler, and a Black-throated blue Warbler.

Le Marais Tylee, indicated by a sign, is accessible by the Community Center parking of the City of Rosemere (202 Chemin de la Grande-Côte, Rosemere). At the bottom of this parking lot, we must take the boardwalk to the end, then continue along the path. Hooded Warbler moving along the first 200 m of the trail that borders the river. In addition to this scarcity, the little-known Tylee Marais also contains other species of interest and well worth a visit.

J'ai eu la chance de voir une PARULINE À CAPUCHON mâle au Marais Tylee, à  Rosemère (Basse-Laurentides), vers 18h45 aujourd'hui. J'ai pu l'observer à satiété jusque vers 19h35, alors qu'elle était encore là à mon départ. Elle s'alimentait dans la strate arbustive directement adjacente à la Rivière des Milles-Îles et faisait partie d'un groupe migrateur constitué de Parulines à tête cendrée, de Parulines flamboyantes, d'une Paruline à joues grise et d'une Paruline bleue.


Le Marais Tylee, signalé par un écriteau, est accessible par le stationnement du Centre Communautaire de la ville de Rosemère (202 Chemin de la Grande-Côte, Rosemère). Au fond de ce stationnement, il faut emprunter la passerelle de bois jusqu'au bout, puis continuer sur le sentier. La Paruline à capuchon se déplaçait le long des premiers 200 m de ce sentier qui borde la rivière. En plus de cette rareté, le trop peu connu Marais Tylee recèle aussi d'autres espèces d'intérêt et vaut bien le détour. - Don-Jean Léandri
