Bird Protection Quebec's Field Trip Report for April 26th

Longueuil

23 BPQ birders gathered at Parc Regional de Longueuil, on the South Shore, for this morning's field trip. Weather conditions were mostly cloudy with still a bit of chill in the air at the start of the day, gradually warming up as the morning went by.

Parc Regional de Longueuil offers three basic habitats; trailsthrough heavily forested areas, stretches of open grasslands and asmall marsh. There is also a substantial section of community gardens in the park.

Our close to four-hour walk resulted in a list of 41 species. A few birds qualified for our Birds of the Day. Three birds, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, an American Kestrel and a Red-shouldered Hawk appeared in rapid succession over the parking lot just as we were compiling the list for the day. 3 Rusty Blackbirds, a Palm Warbler and a Blue-headed Vireo also drew votes for the Bird of the Day.
