Sightings for Tuesday January 23rd

Mirabel: Barrie and I went up to Mirabel to look for the 2 snowy owls (Harfang des neiges). We found them both-one on a telphone pole on Rang St Dominique and theother on a lightpost near the airport on Hwy 50. Trudy and Barrie

Châteauguay, rue Higgins: Red-bellied woodpecker (Pic à ventre roux), Eastern towhee (Tohi à flancs roux), Carolina wren (Troglodyte de Caroline), Mourning doves (Tourterelles tristes), Downy and Hairy woodpeckers (Pics mineurs et chevelus), Blue jays (Geais bleus), American Crows (Corneilles d'Amérique), Chickadees (Mésanges à tête noire), White-breasted nuthatch (Sittelles à poitrine blanche), Cardinal (Cardinal rouge), Tree sparrows (Bruants hudsoniens), Juncos (Juncos ardoisés), Red-winged blackbird (Carouge à épaulettes), Goldfinch (Chardonnerets jaunes), House sparrows (Moineaux domestiques)
At the mouth of the river: 200 Mallards (Canards Colverts), Common mergansers (Grands Harles), Common goldeneye (Garrots à œil d'or), Black-backed gull (Goéland marin), Great blue heron (Grand Héron) Pierre Bannon

Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Compost site: 28 Lapland longspurs (Bruants lapons), 30 Snow buntings (Bruants des neiges) 40 Horned larks (Alouettes hausse-col) Raymond Belhumeur

Ste-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, parc de la Frayère: Yellow warbler (Paruline à croupion jaune) J.C. Charbonneau

Saint-Mathias, Parc de Voiles: at the center of Chambly basin – Gyrfalcon gray form (Faucon gerfaut), 7 Canada geese (Bernache du Canada) Gilles Ethier

Chambly, above the dam on the Richelieu: 11 Common mergansers (Grand harles), 1 Herring gull (Goéland argenté)
At the foot of the rapids behind Fort Chambly: 1 Ring-necked duck (Fuligule à collier), 2 Common goldeneye (Garrots à oeil d'or), 2 Hooded mergansers (Harles couronné), 15 Common mergansers (Grand harles) Gilles Ethier
