Bird Protection Quebec "Field Trip Report" - August 29

The first of the 2015 fall season field trips is in the books. This morning we had 21 Birders show up for a walk at the St. Lazare Sandpits and area. The morning was a little cool to start but warmed up to a nice comfortable day. Mostly sunny with a slight breeze was the norm for the day. Species count for the morning was 47. Many shore birds were present in the pits but the quote unquote regular birds were not present. Only after leaving the pits and walking in the woods adjacent to the car parking lot did we start to see more regular birds. Bird of the day as picked by the group was the Wilson Snipes that were seen. They provided us good views along the shore as well as a fly past. I think that honourable mention should go to the Belted Kingfisher that displayed it’s hovering abilities for us. - Mathias Mutzl
