Bird Protection Quebec field trip report, Saturday February 4

Chateâuguay, Rue Higgins & Sainte- Catherine Récré-O-Parc

Ten birders started at rue Higgins with the temperature -9 and a little breezy. There was a cold wind coming off the water so we decided to go to Ile-Saint-Bernard to find the Great Gray Owls instead. We were told that 2 had just flown off but we did manage to find one near the end of the petit digue.  A good day was had by all.

20 species of bird were seen, listed below:
rue Higgins: Common Merganser  2, Red-bellied Woodpecker  1, Downy Woodpecker  4, Hairy Woodpecker  2, Pileated Woodpecker  1, Blue Jay  4, American Crow  3, Black-capped Chickadee  10, Red-breasted Nuthatch  4, European Starling  30, American Tree Sparrow  1, Dark-eyed Junco  5, Northern Cardinal  3, American Goldfinch  2

Grand harle 2, Pic à ventre roux 1, Pic mineur 4. Pic chevelu 2, Grand pic, Geai bleue 4, Corneille d'Amérique 3, Mésange à tête noire  10,  Sitelle à poitrine blanche 4, Étourneau sansonnet 30, Bruant Hudsonien 1, Junco ardoisé 5, Cardinal rouge 3, Chardonneret jaune

Ile Saint-Bernard: Rock Pigeon 15, Mourning Dove  1, Great Gray Owl  1, Red-bellied Woodpecker  1, Downy Woodpecker  5, Hairy Woodpecker  1, Blue Jay  2, White-breasted Nuthatch  4, American Robin  7, American Tree Sparrow  28, Song Sparrow  1, Northern Cardinal  5, Red-winged Blackbird  1
