Bird Protection Quebec field trip report, Saturday February 25

Fog and warm but damp conditions greeted ten birders for yesterday's field trip to Bois-du-Liesse Nature Park on February 25th. A hoped for wave of early migrants did not materialize and the woods were very quiet. The feeders at the two chalets provided the most sightings but even they were not overly active. Also, unfortunately, we are continuing to see a decrease in the number of feeders at this park with only one at each Centre d'accueil. There used to be several at each and a number on the trails in between.

A total of 14 species were observed with birds of the day being brown creeper and pileated woodpecker providing good views for all participants. Honourable mention goes to the numerous Northern Cardinals singing and chasing each other in territorial disputes.

A nice walk with good company.  - Wayne Grubert
