Heerman's Gull (Goéland de Heermann) The bird was originally found at 2PM at the east side of the open water at Deschennes Rapids.
It spent the rest of the day playing hide and seek, alternating between a roosting flock on the QC side at the east end of the rapids and a smaller flock on the ON side at the west end of the open water, visible from the Britannia Yacht Club (private property). It was last seen at about 5:30 among when all of the flock at the west end flew east. I assume that it is roosting overnight in the flock of several hundred gull on the ice edge at the east end of the rapids. It can be surprisingly difficult to see, except when it flies, or walks out into the open, so patience is required.
The best place to see the bird is likely on the QC side of the Ottawa River, take Vanier Rd south to the Ottawa River, turn left on Martel and park near the corner of Martel and Rosen. Walk directly east to the edge of the river, the flock can be scoped from here. - Mark Gawn

Aussi incroyable que cela puisse paraître, cet après-midi vers 14h Mark Gawn a trouvé un Goéland de Heermann adulte en bas des rapides de Deschênes, sur la rivière des Outaouais. Plusieurs observateurs ontariens et québécois sont allés sur place et ont pu voir l'oiseau qui s'est amusé avec eux en se déplaçant en haut puis en bas des rapides, du côté ontarien puis québécois. Comme je me suis "amusé" moi aussi à passer du côté ontarien puis québécois puis ontarien de nouveau, j'ai dû être un des seuls à ne pas le voir (!!!!*****!!!!!). Je ne l'ai pas trouvé drôle... Mais je vais essayer de nouveau demain. - Hervé Tremblay
