Bird Protection Quebec's field trip report - September 17th

10 birders joined for a very nice trip at Pointe Yamachiche on saturday morning. The weather was excellent, with a clear blue sky and overall nice temperatures (from 8 degree celcius when we began to 18 when we ended)
The trip began with concentrations of red wing blackbirds and starlings in the hundreds in corn fields. At the pointe, things began slowly on the path and we had to work hard to find a few species of warblers and other passerines.

At the tip, the water level was still quite high. The number of shorebirds was relatively limited (almost exclusively Black-bellied Plovers) when we arrived at 9:00, but little by little, birds arrived and we eventually saw a good diversity of shorebirds, even in small numbers. We were lucky enough to be able to compare extensively Black-bellied and American Golden Plovers both in flight and on the ground.

A few more songbirds, on our way back, added to our list, which in total reached 52 species (details below). Bird of the day was the American Golden Plover, with a 'mention spéciale' to the Bonaparte Gull.

Thanks to all who joined for a nice Saturday morning at the Lac St Pierre. -  Frédéric Hareau
