Sightings for Sunday September 19th

Victoriaville, réservoir Beaudet: A little after sunset tonight at réservoir Beaudet, I observed a small dark gull very active among the Ring-billed Gulls. Low on water with a long projection of primaries without white tips, the beak long and slightly hooked, I recognized the jizz of a Laughing Gull. The bird captured insects while remaining on the water. It was a first year Laughing gull, with the light that fell on the feathers it appeared to be in transition to first winter plumage. Other interisting observations, 3 Horned grebes and a Common Nighthawk.


Un peu après le coucher de soleil ce soir au réservoir Beaudet, j'ai observé un petit laridé foncé très actif parmi les Goélands à bec cerclé. Très bas sur l'eau avec une longue projection des primaires sans pointes blanches, le bec long et légèrement crochu, j'ai reconnu le jizz de la Mouette atricille. L'oiseau capturait des insectes tout en restant sur l'eau. C'était une Mouette atricille de première année, sous un éclairage qui diminuait, le plumage m'a semblé être en transition vers un 1er hiver. Autres observations d'intérêt, 3 Grèbes esclavons et 1 Engoulevent d'Amérique. - Claude Roy
