Sightings for Friday December 5th

Mirabel: 1 Snowy owl on a lamp standard along route 50 to the Mirabel airport
Rang St-Dominique 3 Snowy owls, including one atop a telephone pole,close by the road.... several photographers were there. I spent at least 90 minutes with the bird... they tell me it hadn't moved for at least 4 hours...still there when I went on to others things.
Noted ... still a huge (300 ++ ) flock of Snow Buntings, right at the end of Chemin Ste-Marie.
I also photographed a Rough-legged hawk in flight along Ste-Marie and saw another one overfly St-Dominique. - Click photo to enlarge

Sainte-Marthe: A pair of Short-eared Owls (Hibou des marais) could be seen in the late afternoon hunting in the fields off the western portion of Rang St. Julie - George Palagian

Laval, Bois-Papineau: we were treated to a show about 5 American crows (Corneilles d'Amérique) who chased a Great Horned Owl (Grand-duc d'Amérique) out of the feeders' area and right over our heads. For the first time at the feeders I saw a male and female Purple Finch (Roselins pourpré). H. Trachtenberg

Québec, domaine Maizerets: Wilson’s warbler south side along the trail near the bicycle path. Not far from the stream to the mill.
Paruline à calotte noire domaine Maizerets à Québec. Cette fois-ci, elle se tenait du côté sud (côté ensoleillé), le long du sentier longeant la piste cyclable, non loin du ruisseau du Moulin. Elle était très nerveuse, cherchant frénétiquement des insectes près du sol, autour des
"fardoches" ou sous les quelques conifères présents à cet endroit. Je crois l'avoir vue capturer quelque insecte sur un petit tronc mais son taux de succès semblait très faible par cette température de -8 degrés C. - Gaétan Lord
