Summer Series of Birding Field Trip #6 Report - August 1

Today's Summer Series outing took us to 4 different locations south of Montreal close to the U.S. border. We began on rang de la Barbotte and ch. du Bord-du-Lac, two roads that lead south on either side of the Richelieu River at the point where it enters Lake Champlain. Barbotte is south of Lacolle; Bord-du-Lac is south of Noyan. From there we headed north-east to two stops in the Henryville region; rang des Cotes, and the Henryville Marsh on ch. Bullock.

The day looked gloomy as we arrived at the meeting spot off Highway 15 at Exit 6, but winds managed to push the storm clouds through, making for a full morning and early afternoon of mostly sunshine and warm temperatures. 15 birders made it to the trip. We managed to collect a total of 52 species. Highlights of the day included two Bald Eagles, one young and one adult; and two Common Loons. - Sheldon Harvey
