Ten birders took part in our Sunday (Mother's Day) morning field trip to Parc Nature Bois-de-Liesse. Cloudy, warm, (up to 25C) humid conditions were the order of the morning but luckily the rain held off.
Our total species count was low for the month of May but partially explained by the fact that many of our participants were eager novices and hence we spent a good deal of time observing and learning about each of the species we encountered. Highlights included a very cooperative Great-crested Flycatcher, numerous Northern Cardinals singing from exposed perches, low soaring Turkey Vultures and good views of Yellow Warblers, American Redstarts and a Black-throated Blue Warbler.
We were joined on the outing by Le Nga Phan who is responsible for group permits for several of the Nature Parks. After issuing our permit earlier in the week she decided to join us and see what we were all about. Her parents visiting from Toronto and her husband also joined us. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the outing.
Thanks to everyone who came out. Hope we see you all again. Remember to do your homework! - Wayne Grubert
