Montréal: I spent a thoroughly satisfactory morning at the Botanical Gardens. After such a long winter, it's great to see spring (even though today is on the chilly side)! My sightings included both kinglets (les deux roitelets), both waxwings (les deux jaseurs), Eastern phoebe (Moucherolle phébi), a diversity of sparrows - chipping, song, fox, white-throated, and masses of juncoes (Bruants - faimlier, Chanteur, fauve, à gorge blanche, junco), woodpeckers - downy, hairy, sapsucker, (Pics - mineur, chevelu, maculé), Cooper's hawk, American kestrel (Épervier de Cooper, Crécerelle d'Amerique) (rather to my surprise--I'm used to seeing merlins at the Gardens, not kestrels), a couple of Hermit thrushes (Grive solitaire), and a red fox in a hurry. I'd hoped to see a pine warbler, as one had been reported from the Gardens earlier this week, but no luck in that regard. And the grebes don't seem to be back yet--but that just leaves something to anticipate for next time! - Zofia
