Sightings for Thursday January 26th

Sainte-Catherine, Recre-O-Parc:  I was able find a hybrid of Barrow's goldeneye X Common goldeneye, a male Barrow's goldeneye, four male Ring-necked Duck standing two by two among the many Common goldeneye, also 7 male and a female Gadwall.

Looking at the side of the Ile-aux-Heron, I saw a male Northern pintail and two adult Bald Eagles.

Récré-O-Parc de Sainte-Catherine: J'ai pu retracer un hybride de Garrot d'Islande x Garrot à oeil d'or, un mâle de Garrot d'Islande, quatre mâles de Fuligule à collier se tenant deux par deux parmi les nombreux Garrots à oeil d'or, ainsi que 7 mâles et une femelle de Canard chipeau.
En regardant du côté de l'Île-aux-Hérons, j'ai pu voir un mâle de Canard pilet et deux adultes de Pygargue à tête blanche.
Derrière la clôture de la plage, un couple de Renard roux se prélassait au soleil sur le gazon avec de nombreux Merles d'Amérique - Raymond Belhumeur

Verdun: I spotted five Eastern screech owls in the île des Sœurs woods this afternoon. I think this is a unique phenomenon for such a small area in winter. In 35 years of regular observation in these woods, I have never seen more than two owls in winter, even when the area of ​​woodland was double what it is now. It is likely that this phenomenon is associated with a high concentration of mammals on the island. I'm curious to know how many Owls there are on the neighboring islands of the Lachine Rapids (Île aux Hérons, etc.). Unfortunately, these islands are not accessible.

In addition, at least 2 Winter wrens are still present, and 4 Brown Creepers.

J'ai repéré 5 Petits-ducs maculés au boisé de l'île des Sœurs cet après-midi. À mon avis, il s'agit d'un phénomène unique pour un si petit territoire en période hivernale. En 35 ans d'observation régulière dans ce boisé, je n'avais jamais vu plus de 2 Petits-ducs en période hivernale, même lorsque la superficie du boisé était le double de ce qu'elle est maintenant. Il est probable que ce phénomène est associé à une forte concentration de micromammifères sur l'île. Je serais curieux de savoir combien il y a de Petits-ducs sur les îles voisines des Rapides de Lachine (Île aux Hérons, etc). Malheureusement, ces îles ne sont pas accessibles.

à l’embouchure du canal de Beauharnois: il y avait un garrot d’Islande mâle parmi un groupe de garrot à œil d’or et un un adulte pygargue à tête blanche. Voici quelques photos  - Denis Collins
