REFUGE FAUNIQUE MARGUERITE D'YOUVILLE, A DIVERSITY OF HABITATS: with Dominic Gendron

The Refuge Faunique Marguerite-D'Youville, located on Île Saint-Bernard in Châteauguay, is becoming a well known site for birding. However, few people realize that the quality and presence of some of its habitats are primarily due to human intervention and management. Join Dominic Gendron to learn about the history of protecting this unique territory and the ongoing wildlife habitat restoration projects: the reasons these projects were needed, the various results, and the benefits for the many species that are present, including 222 bird species. The Châteauguay-Léry Greenbelt project of which Île Saint-Bernard is a part will be briefly explained.

After a professional training to become a game warden, Dominic Gendron began to work at Héritage Saint-Bernard in 2000. He is the conservation and maintenance coordinator of the protected and managed territories for this nonprofit organization. Dominic is also an amateur wildlife photographer. His work can be seen on his BLOG and in magazines and other publications for non-profit environmental organizations. He writes for Marche-Randonnée magazine and is the vice-president of Club des Ornithologues de Chateauguay.
