Sightings for Saturday January 13th

Boucherville, Parc de la Frayère: 3 Long-eared Owls (Hibou moyen-duc) Two of the long-ears were sitting together in a cedar tree with the third one put on quite a display by sitting out in the open on a bare tree. Northern saw-whet owl (Petit nyctale) was peacefully taking a nap, right at eye-level, in one of the cedar trees along the roadside. Other birds seen were numerous American Tree Sparrows (Bruants hudsonien), a couple of American Robins (Merles d’Amérique), Cedar Waxwings (Jaseur d’Amérique), a Downy Woodpecker (Pic mineur), several Mourning Doves (Touterelle triste) and a really nice surprise, a Common Grackle (Quisale bronzé)!

Montreal, Botanical Gardens: It was a pleasant day, a little cool but not too much wind, plus the sun broke through later into the morning making things even better. Regardless of the good weather, there wasn't too much bird life around the gardens.
15 birders came up with a total of 13 species for the morning. The Bird of the Day was our sole raptor of the day, a Cooper's Hawk. Here is our summary of sightings for the morning:1 Cooper's Hawk (Épervier de Cooper), 6 Rock Pigeons (Pigeon biset), 15 American Crows (Corneilles d'Amérique), 3 Downy Woodpeckers (Pic mineur), 1 Hairy Woodpecker (Pic Chevelu), 30 Black-capped Chickadee (Mésanges à tête noir), 2 White-breasted Nuthatch (Sittelle à poitrine blanche), 2 Brown Creepers (Grimpereaux bruns), 1 American Robin (Merles d'Amérique), 50 House Sparrows (Moineau domestique) 6 Northern Cardinals (Cardinal rouge) 4 House Finches (Roselin familier) 10 American Goldfinches (Chardonneret jaune)
